We decided that fetishes would be our main focus for our editorial. When thinking firstly about what we would like to include i thought of the Madonna Sex book, these photograph were taken by Steven Mielsel Studio and realised on 21st October 1992, the book was made to promote erotic photographs, shot in New York, Miami, the locations ranged from hotels, theatres, burlesque halls and streets around these locations.
The book had a range of influences form Guy Bourdin to Helmet Newton for there stylised approach to sadomasochism. Sex has photographs that feature adult culture of soft-core pornography as well as stipulations of sex acts such as sadomasochism and analings. the book includes appearances from actress Isabella Rossellini, rappers Big Daddy Kane and Vanilla Ice, model Naomi Campbell, gay porn star Joey Stefano and actor Udo Kier.
the book was an instant success, making sales figure to 150,000 and on its first day toppling the New York times best seller list. it was negativity by many critics, claiming that she has gone too far. however besides this on a more positive not Sex is now seen to be a defining phase of Madonna career. sex is noted for its impact on society and culture as well as Madonna herself. considered to be a bold and post-feminist work of art. the book as since them become one of the most talked about book ever realised and still remains one of the fastest selling coffee table books.
When looking at the images in this book I thought that it has influenced us for the positions and use of sexual preferences. The styling also is something to look at if we are to go down the root of leather and latex.
